Snackboxe Bistro Owners to Open Naga Bistro in Chamblee, Melding Lao, Thai, and Cambodian Flavors

The team behind Snackboxe Bistro in Duluth is expanding their vision with Naga Bistro, set to open this fall in Chamblee. Taking over the former Wild Ginger Thai Cuisine space on Savoy Drive, Naga Bistro will bring together traditional and fusion Lao, Thai, and Khmer (Cambodian) dishes under one roof, complete with a full bar and a drive-through window for takeout.
Chef and co-owner Thip Athakhanh, alongside her husband and business partner Vanh Sengaphone, sees Naga Bistro as a leap of faith and a chance to share flavors from their Lao heritage and Athakhanh’s love for Thai and Cambodian cuisine. “We’ve been thinking about opening this restaurant for ten years,” Athakhanh said, noting that while Snackboxe focuses solely on Lao food, Naga Bistro will highlight Cambodian dishes like prahok ktis (savory minced pork dip), kathiew (Cambodian beef noodle soup), and dishes using kroeung, a fragrant lemongrass-based paste.
The menu will also feature exclusive dishes like Pad Thai-Lao, blending Laos’s sweet and savory flavors with the tamarind citrus brightness of Thai cuisine, as well as grilled steak served with prahok and Lao sour dipping sauces. For dessert, expect creative takes like lemongrass crème brûlée. Beer, wine, and cocktails with ingredients like lemongrass will be served from the indoor-outdoor bar.
Naga Bistro’s opening comes at a time of growing interest in Southeast Asian cuisine in Atlanta and will serve as a gathering place celebrating the diverse culinary traditions of Laos, Thailand, and Cambodia while supporting cross-cultural community ties in the city.
